APPLES
There are many more types of apples than you might guess. There are infact
more than 7,000 varieties grown in the world.
New Zealand exported almost 330,000 tonnes of fresh apples during the
year ended June 2000, earning $404.3 million. The quantity of apples exported
has increased each year since 1997.
Braeburn and Royal Gala are our main export earners. In 2000, these two
varieties represented over 70 percent of the total apples exported.
